CARIBBEAN STATISTICS DAY 2019 CELEBRATIONS

THEME: Building the Resilience of the Caribbean Community

OVERVIEW

Tuesday, 15 October 2019, will mark the Eleventh observance of Caribbean Statistics Day in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The theme for this year is the same as in the previous year, that is, “Building the Resilience of the Caribbean Community”. It is the same because of its continued relevance to the Community. Strong regional statistical co-operation is vital in the achievement of a resilient Community.

Heads of Government endorsed the Strategic Framework for the Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS) at their Thirty-Ninth Regular Meeting (Jamaica, July 2018) recognising that it is central to the advancement of the regional integration process. It is designed to make available harmonised, intra-regional statistics to guide and monitor its progress and to provide information for decision-making that is evidence-based.

Member States and Associate Members are encouraged to actively engage with stakeholders including, suppliers and users of data and specifically, schools, children and youth in general in promoting the importance of statistics to the development of the respective countries.
