CARIBBEAN STATISTICS DAY 2020 CELEBRATIONS

THEME: Connecting the World with Data We Can Trust

OVERVIEW

Thursday, 15 October 2020, will mark the Twelfth observance of Caribbean Statistics Day in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). This year's activities also coincide with the third observance of the United Nation's World Statistics Day on 20 October 2020. Caribbean Statistics Day is aimed at recognising the vital role of statistics in improving the daily lives of the peoples of our Community and in raising the profile of statistics and statisticians across the Region. The theme for the year borrowed from that of the World Statistics Day, is "Connecting the World with Data We Can Trust".

Central to this theme is the implementation of the CARICOM Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS) which was endorsed by the CARICOM Heads of Government at their Thirty-Ninth Regular Meeting (Jamaica, July 2018). The Heads recognised that the RSDS is key to the advancement of the regional integration process, being designed to make available, harmonised, intra-regional statistics to guide and monitor its progress and to provide information for decision-making, as well as to facilitate comparison at the international level.

Member States and Associate Members were encouraged to actively engage with stakeholders including, suppliers and users of data and specifically, schools, children and youth in general in promoting the importance of statistics to the development of the respective countries.
