Overview of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Statistics Division, which was part of the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance, has been replaced by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) as of 2025.<\/p>\n

The Statistics Division in the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance was established in 1975 by the General Statistics Act. The Division aims to provide high-quality statistics to a wide variety of users including the government, business community, public, media, regional and international agencies, and academia, among others. The main functions are data collection, data processing, and compilation, data analysis, data publication, and dissemination of official statistics.<\/p>\n

Nationally, the Division consults with key public sectors, private sector, civil society, and non-government organisations that contribute to the production of official statistics. Regionally, the Division collaborates with development partners and regional agencies to ensure a harmonised approach to the development of statistics in the region. At the international level, the Division collaborates with development partners, international organisations, and other stakeholders to ensure that the Division\u2019s work and statistical outlook are consistent with international trends and principles.<\/p>\n

Overview of the Institute<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

The Bahamas National Statistical Institute (BNSI), formerly known as the Department of Statistics, has a rich history of collecting and disseminating aggregated results since its inception in 1968. The newly established statistical institute will help to modernize the collection, analysis, and dissemination of official statistics for the country.<\/p>\n

With the passage of the Statistics Act, 2021 in March, the Bahamas National Statistical Institute (BNSI) now has the statutory mandate for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of statistics, including the national census. The transition to take over from the Department of Statistics will take place over time.<\/p>\n

Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n

To ensure that the Bahamian Government, businesses, and people are never hampered in their activities by inadequacies of statistics, their recent trends, or their interpretation; and in particular, to ensure that the managers of the Bahamian economy in the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and elsewhere, never lack adequate statistics nor argue about them.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB)<\/strong>\u00a0is an autonomous national agency established to\u00a0collect, compile, extract, analyse, and disseminate official statistics<\/strong>\u00a0related to Belize\u2019s demographic, social, environmental, and economic and general activities. The SIB is the only authorised Institute which can approve the official status of any data or other statistical information published by any other body. SIB has the authority to approve the process of data collection, compilation, and analysis by any Body.<\/p>\n

Overview the Central Statistics Office<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

The Dominica CSO operates within the\u00a0Census and Statistics Act\u00a0<\/a>with the mandate to \u201ccollect, compile, analyse, abstract and publish statistics portraying various aspects of the social, demographic and economic conditions of the people of the State\u201d. The Statistics Authority for the State is also \u201cresponsible for taking, from time to time, appropriate measures to organize and develop a national statistical system capable of meeting effectively the statistical needs of social and economic planning.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dominica Central Statistics Office comprises of four units namely Economic, Social and Demographic, Computing and Surveys and Administrative.<\/p>\n
