CARICOM Year of Statistics (YoS)

CARICOM Year of Statistics

(YoS)

The Year 2024–2025 will mark a significant milestone for statistics in the CARICOM region, as it commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS), which was established in 1974.

In anticipation of this auspicious and historic milestone, the observance of a Year of Statistics (YoS) in CARICOM was recommended by the 48th Meeting of the SCCS (October 2023). This initiative aims to spotlight and honour the many achievements in the area of Statistics including the pivotal role of statistics in shaping evidence-based policy and driving sustainable development across the region, while celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the SCCS, the cornerstone institution in regional statistical development. This recommendation was endorsed and declared by the Prime Ministers of Belize and Grenada at the Fourth High Level Advocacy Forum on Statistics which was held on 4 November 2024 in Belize.  It was agreed that the observance of the Year of Statistics in CARICOM would be from November 2024 to 2025 under the theme “Improving Lives through Statistics, Strengthening and Innovating Together”.
