Description
Since 2009, the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the CARICOM Secretariat through the RSP, have observed Caribbean Statistics Day (CSD) annually on the 15 October. This decision emanated from the Thirty-Third Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS) in October 2008. Member States, Associate Members, as well as the RSP would report on their activities for CSD during the annual meeting of the SCCS in November.
The rationale for this observance is to highlight statistics and its crucial role and impact across a wide spectrum of activities – from daily decision-making faced by individuals, businesses, students etc. to planning, policy-making analysis and research activities of governments, international donors, academia and other users. The observance seeks to raise awareness of the many achievements and garner greater profile for statistics throughout the Region.
