The National Census Reports (NCRs) were prepared by demography experts from the Region, with two reviewers from the University of the West Indies (UWI). The reports present data that highlight trends in the demographic transition of the populations of Member Countries, from youthful to ageing population. The reports also make significant connections regarding education, training, economic activity, gender and fertility. This is the seventh National Accounts Digest to be prepared by the Statistics Sub-programme of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat. The sixth report was published in 2001 and covered the period 1990 – 1999. It was the intention to produce a report every two years and, in the intervals, to continue to collect data from Member States and post these on our web site as soon as they became available. However, while it was not possible to publish the Digests as planned, the Sub-programme has attempted to keep its web site active with current data.

This is the second edition of a report which originally started out as an attempt to make available for both internal and external users, key economic indicators of CARICOM Member States in a single publication. However, as that earlier report developed and the problems of compiling a consistent and reliable data set across all Member States were exposed, the publication grew into an attempt to bring to the fore the issues of harmonisation of statistics in the Region. This report then continues in a similar manner,highlighting issues in the data and presenting updated indicators.
